In the final part of my shopping trip, I took had a nosey in HMV to have a look at their pre-school DVDs. I wasn't able to speak with a member of staff to find out what sells well, but I did take note of which DVDs were prominently displayed (the majority are displayed with their spine forward, but some of them are presented cover-forward in order to catch the attention of shoppers.)
There were plenty of DVDs of Paw Patrol. I really must watch this, as it's clear from all the merchandising that it's one of the most popular shows for this age group.
And Postman Pat is as popular as ever. (No DVDs of the original series though, sadly...)
As is PEPPA THE ALMIGHTY AND OMNIPRESENT PIG.
When I looked at the best-selling pre-school DVDs on Amazon, I found a similar range of titles. The animated series in the top 50 best-sellers were: -
One that caught my eye is a series called Chuggington, which I haven't heard of before. Perhaps a modern-day Thomas the Tank Engine? Apparently it's a CBeebies show but I haven't seen it in the schedules. Perhaps it's not on at the moment.

Octonauts was on display too, but I think maybe this one is starting to lose its popularity; you used to see it absolutely everywhere a couple of years ago, but less so now.
An ample selection of Bing, complete with his weird knitted guardian.

- Octonauts (four times!)
- Chuggington (twice)
- Sarah & Duck (twice)
- Baby Jake (shudder)

- God tier: Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol are massive, way more popular anything else.
- Tier 2: Modern series such as Bing, Octonauts, Sarah & Duck, Hey Duggee, Go Jetters, Ben & Holly.
- Tier 3: Perennial classics such as Postman Pat, Thomas the Tank Engine, My Little Pony.
