Catch-up time

"So Kira," you may well be asking, "What the heck have you been up for the past few months?"

Well, although I've neglected this blog for a long time, I have been pottering about with sketchbook work, and do now have a solid concept for my series. So let me bring you up to date.

What am I aiming to produce?

So as a reminder, the intended outcomes of my project are to produce a pitch bible and a pilot episode for a series which:-

  • is intended for television broadcast
  • uses stop-motion animation (either on its own or in conjunction with other media)
  • is aimed at children aged 4 to 6
  • is linked to National Curriculum subject matter
  • combines education and entertainment
After playing around with a few different concepts, I decided that the best way to encourage childrens' curiosity about the world around them by using an "outsider" character: someone who is completely naive about the world around them, which allows for comical misunderstandings, prompts lessons, and allows the young audience to feel confident in their learning ability because they know more than the protagonist.

I initially went down the route of using aliens as my protagonists, but this proved to be a non-starter once I discovered the existence of Floogals, which had a nearly identical concept. However, one of my doodles pages seemed promising... doodles of a Stone Age child. So I continued to doodle.

But there was one problem with this idea. Outside of the historical documentary The Flintstones, I didn't know anything about the Stone Age.
