My live brief commercial has been released!
To be honest, I found it a little frustrated that my animation work had been changed. I appreciate that media is always about collaboration and you can't be precious about your own personal contribution. Nevertheless, I was disappointed to see that frames had been dropped from the "floating photo" sequence to make the movement jerkier, and that the timing of the present wrapping had been altered. In my opinion, my own timings were better!
However, I was very interested to see how the shots had been edited together, as I really had no idea how the final thing was going to look. I did think that the editor did a fantastic job stitching together the disparate shots.
It's always an amazing experience to get to work in a studio: it's such a fun opportunity which I am always so very grateful for. It also provides me with further experience for my CV and footage for my showreel. Not to mention, it's good to get paid for something I enjoy doing!
This particular shoot really tested my problem-solving ability, as I turned up on the day with no idea what I was doing, without the opportunity to plan and prepare, so I really had to think on my feet to quickly draw up some ideas and find solutions to how to achieve the shots. It also tested my professionality as I had to look calm and cool, like it was no effort to me, when inside I was panicking "this isn't working!"
In terms of my main MA project, interestingly there was a little crossover, as the commercial involved a floating piece of paper, and my pilot episode will involve objects floating around in the wind, so I now have some experience of moving objects around on rigs to get that effect!
